Those of a certain age will recognise some of these toys. Humpty, Big Ted, Little Ted, Hamble and Jemima, but slightly different...
These are the Australian version of the Play School toys because Australia also had Play School on children's television - in fact, in Australia, the programme is still going strong.
I took this photograph when I visited the Museum of the Moving Image in Melbourne last week, but was surprised to see that Play School was still on when I turned on the television a few days later. In fact, it is an incredibly popular programme here and many of the presenters have gone on to become film or tv stars - for example, Tara Morrice of Strictly Ballroom fame. I have even seen the announcement of the name of the new presenter for Play School being made on a morning news programme.
And Play School is not the only thing on television here to remind me of my youth. For those of you who occasionally ask yourself - where did Status Quo ever go? I can now answer that question.
They are here in Australia advertising Coles Supermarket! Believe it or not the old rockers play 'Down, down, deeper and down' in front of a screen that shows that chicken breasts are reduced this week at Coles. They wear large red fingers as well and point down just to make sure that the message is getting through.
